The Gallatin Group

The Gallatin Group is a premier public affairs, government relations, and strategic communications firm in the Northwest.  We are very pleased to have the following members of The Gallatin Group as presenters:

John MacDonald is a Principal in the Helena office of The Gallatin Group.  John is a 16-year veteran of The Associated Press, most recently serving as the organization’s news editor for Montana and Wyoming. As news editor, MacDonald managed a staff of writers and editors and was responsible for coordinating AP’s extensive regional news coverage of issues including politics, state government and environmental and industry issues. He worked closely with AP members including daily newspaper editors and broadcasters throughout the two states to help coordinate their coverage of issues as well. Prior to his role as news editor, John worked as the AP’s correspondent in Fargo, North Dakota, covering breaking news and special projects in North Dakota, northwestern Minnesota and occasionally southern Manitoba, Canada. From 1991 to 1996 John served as an AP newsman in Bismarck, North Dakota covering a variety of issues, including industry and environment, government affairs and politics and the North Dakota Legislature.

Callie Johnson is an Associate in The Gallatin Group’s Helena office. A versatile and accomplished professional, Callie has 15 years marketing, management, and public relations experience. Prior to joining the firm, Callie spent 10 years in advertising and management with Lee Enterprises Inc., now the fourth largest newspaper company in the country. Additionally, Callie is skilled in message development, communications strategies, and media buying, and has strong statewide media and business connections.

Callie volunteers as a mentor at the Florence Crittenton Home for pregnant and parenting teens, chairs the marketing and PR committee for the organization’s annual fundraiser, and serves on their Foundation Board as well. She is involved in other local professional organizations, including the Women’s Leadership Network where she served on the board for two years. Her passions revolve around family, friends, and community.

Aidan Myhre is a Principal in the Helena office of The Gallatin Group.  She brings strong experience working on legislative policy issues and strategies for clients such as the Montana Chamber of Commerce, Montana-Dakota Utilities, Montana Community Foundation, Consumer Healthcare Products Association, and the Montana Comprehensive Health Association. She also has a business and marketing background.

Aidan was involved in the advertising business from a very early age. Following graduate school at the University of Montana, Aidan returned to manage the family outdoor advertising business. In 1994, the company received a Small Business of the Year Award. Since that time, Aidan has owned a public relations / government-affairs consulting firm and served as the communications and public relations director for the Montana State Fund, the largest worker’s compensation insurance carrier in Montana. In 2002, she served as the communications director for Taxpayers Against I-145 (an initiative to acquire the hydroelectric dams throughout Montana).

2009 Case Study - Helena Food Share

The Excellence in Nonprofit Communications (ENC) program was launched in 2008 after Toni Broadbent, owner of Allegra Print & Imaging in Helena, approached MNA Executive Director, Brian Magee, about ways to assist local nonprofits in strengthening their communication efforts. Toni and Brian approached other potential partners who could play a key role in providing consulting services, products, or financial assistance to the program.
