Partner, The Gallatin Group

Royer leads Seattle office after departure of Gary Smith, teams with Washington native Joe Hardy on Washington State-Washington, D.C. issues.

Bob Royer, the former Deputy Mayor of Seattle and Director of Communications and Public Affairs at Seattle City Light has been named Managing Partner of The Gallatin Group’s Seattle office following the departure of Gary Smith. In addition to leading the firm’s Seattle office, Royer will serve on the Board of Directors of The Gallatin Group.

“Bob Royer’s deep roots in the Pacific Northwest make him the ideal person to lead the growth of The Gallatin Group in Seattle and western Washington,” said Marc C. Johnson, President of The Gallatin Group. “Bob is also a perfect complement to our team of public affairs, communications and lobbying professionals in our offices throughout the Northwest and Washington, D.C.”

Royer joined The Gallatin Group from Coastal Environmental Systems. His public affairs and communications experience in western Washington spans 25 years and includes six years as Seattle’s Deputy Mayor when his brother Charles Royer served as Mayor. Royer operated his own public affairs firm from 1983-1999 and also worked as a broadcast journalist at KING TV.

“The regional and Washington, D.C. reach of The Gallatin Group is extremely attractive to me,” Royer said. “I am delighted to have the opportunity to join a strong, established firm and to help grow our operation in western Washington.”

Royer will apply his extensive regional and international energy policy expertise as a member of The Gallatin Group’s energy practice group, which also includes two former members of the Northwest Power Planning Council and a former deputy manager of the Department of Energy’s Idaho National Laboratory.

Royer will also work closely with the firm’s Washington, D.C. partner Joe Hardy, a former top aide to Washington Congressman Adam Smith. Hardy, a Mercer Island native, assumed leadership of Gallatin’s Washington, D.C. office last September.

“Bob and Joe offer our clients a great combination of Washington State and Washington, D.C. experience, knowledge and relationships,” Johnson said.
