Shannon McCarthy Berg is a Principal in Gallatin's Portland office.

When the City of Detroit lost power for three hot August days in the great northeast blackout of 2003, the second call made by the highest-ranking official in the city was to Shannon Berg. She was one of a small group that ran the emergency operations and public information that kept nearly 1 million people calm and safe. Shannon Berg joined the Gallatin Public Affairs Portland, Oregon office as a Principal on September 22 expanding the firm’s public affairs, communications and government relations practice in Oregon, the Pacific Northwest and Washington, D.C.

Berg is a communications professional from Detroit, Michigan where she ran a PR consulting firm serving clients in non-profit, tourism and government industries. Berg has experience in a broad range of communications disciplines including crisis management; marketing, PR and community relations; event production; campaign management; and advertising programs in a major media market.

A native of Detroit, Michigan, Shannon graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in public relations. Additionally, she is a graduate of the Detroit Regional Chamber of Commerce Leadership Detroit program and has completed Federal Emergency Management Agency training in Early Terrorism Warning and Emergency Response. Shannon has been a contributing writer to Hour Detroit Magazine and a member of a number of Detroit civic and business associations.  She moved to Portland in September after her marriage to Erik Berg, an Intel engineer.
