Dan Lavey is a Partner and manages the Portland office of Gallatin Public Affairs.

Recognized as one of Oregon's leading public affairs and political strategists, Dan has provided strategic counsel to numerous businesses, elected officials, and political candidates during the past 15 years.

For more than a decade, Dan has served as a top adviser and senior strategist to U.S. Sen. Gordon Smith, managing two campaigns for the U.S. Senate, serving as communications and policy adviser in Washington, D.C., and serving as Smith's chief of staff during his term as president of the Oregon Senate. In 2000, Dan helped organize and advise the Oregon presidential campaign of George W. Bush.

During the early 1990s, Dan was the chief of staff and senior political strategist for Oregon's state Senate Republican caucus where he engineered a gain of four seats for the Republicans in 1992, laying the groundwork for a GOP take-over of the state legislature two years later.

A native Oregonian, Dan earned a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Oregon. He currently serves on the board of directors of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Portland, and is a member of the Arlington Club and Multnomah Athletic Club. In addition, Dan serves on the National Advisory Council of the U.S. Small Business Administration and in 2003 was recognized by the Portland Business Journal as one of the "40 under 40" business and community leaders in Portland. Dan and his wife, Lori, live with their son, Max, and daughter, Piper, in the Raleigh Hills neighborhood of Portland.
